Finding Joy…

6 Oct

This quest for joy and balance in my life has lead me to look for moments of wonder in my daily life. As a child, we all look at the world with fresh eyes, we see the magic in every day things. So much of that has gotten lost as I’ve grown and now I am looking for it again. By leaving stress at the door, I am starting to rediscover all the joy and magic in the world.

While they may not be the most original things, or the most inventive, I know six (non human) things that can bring me a moment of peace and a dash of joy in the middle of an otherwise hectic life. Even on the worst day, these things bring me joy.

The Moon: a moonlit walk, or even an evening sitting on the back porch staring up at the sky brings me an instant sense of peace. The way some people feel instantly relaxed at the beach, is how I feel on a moonlit evening.

Tea: With so many flavors and types, from iced to hot, a great cup of tea can brighten my mood. It’s funny, the younger me was all about some coffee. While a still enjoy a good cup o’ joe, I am  definitely on Team Tea these days.

Furbabies: Whether its a snuggle with my favorite Ziggy cat or watching dog walkers in the park, furry things make me want to jump for joy. I instantly feel like a little kid, wanting to coo over all the cuteness and squeeze them with luvins. Many afternoons, I have distracted myself by perusing all the cuteness up for adoption on PetFinder.

Crochet: A few years ago, one of my favorites taught me how to crochet. I only know the most basic of stitches, but I have adapted that into making scarves, blankets and hats. Someday I want to take a class and learn more.

Reading: I have previously posted about how much I love the library, and nothing helps me escape the stress or discover joy like reading. Books are magic, y’all.

Snail Mail: Nothing makes me happier than sending a cheery hello to my friends. In today’s world, our mailboxes are cluttered with bills and junk. Rarely, do we receive some happiness in the mailbox. I am on a mission to change this, by sending happiness through the good ole U.S. Postal Service. If you want a “Snail Mail Hello!” send me your address at erinlindsey.maurer@gmail.com. We can be pen pals.

I want to say a big thank you to Kyla Roma, her post on daily wonder was a big source of inspiration for me today.

Yeah I don’t know what it is about life that made me savor tea so much more than coffee, but its definitely the case this days. Though I did get an Orange Spice Latte mix from the store that I am dying to try.

It’s always the small things-tea, the news paper, a nice day, a conversation with a dear friend.

If you want the info on the event I can email you the invite, email me beth at socialclimbers dot net
